The Accommodation
Modern Minka is a restored home in the heart of Kanazawa, nestled between the Asano River and Kenroku-en, offering garden-inspired Japanese cuisine, thoughtful workshop experiences, and overnight accommodation in our converted teahouse. Rooted in quiet minimalism and the beauty of handcrafted detail, the suite-style room reflects the surrounding landscape through natural textures, soft restraint, and a deep sense of calm—creating a peaceful setting for an intimate overnight stay.
From the moment you book, a member of our team will be on hand to take care of every detail of your stay. For your ease, we can also arrange transfers to and from local transport hubs, as well as dinner reservations at nearby restaurants, should you wish to dine out in the evening. Should you wish to end the evening with a quiet drink, we would be pleased to reserve a place for you at one of our favourite tucked-away bars.
The Teahouse is an elegantly appointed retreat, where every detail is shaped by stillness, craft, and connection to the garden. This 65m² suite features a queen-size bed, a quiet living area, and a calligrapher’s corner table positioned to frame the changing light beyond the windows. A fully equipped kitchen, walk-in wardrobe, shower room, and custom sunken hinoki bath create a sense of ease and ritual, with garden-inspired amenities designed to heighten the experience of place. Tatami flooring, diatomaceous earthen walls, hinoki wood ceilings, and a curated collection of artistic objects bring texture, warmth, and restraint. Paired with neutral tones and locally crafted timber furniture, the space invites guests to slow their breath, soften into comfort, and experience the quiet luxury of Japanese living.
The Garden Lunch
Set beneath the soft canopy of the weeping cherry tree, the Garden Lunch unfolds at an unhurried pace, inviting guests to linger in the quiet rhythm of the garden. The six-course menu is guided by the season, drawing from the kitchen garden and local producers to create dishes of restraint, balance, and natural beauty. Paired wines and sake are chosen to complement the changing flavours, creating a refined afternoon shaped by shade, scent, and the gentle passage of time.
Teahouse Inspired Breakfast
Breakfast is served as a quiet seasonal ritual, inspired by the teahouse and the gardens that surround it. Slip into your vintage kimono-style robe and enjoy breakfast in the dining room or in a chosen corner of the garden, where each dish is prepared with locally sourced ingredients and a gentle sense of care. Flavours are balanced, simple, and prepared lovingly, offering a calm beginning to the day.
